Think about why you want to be a journalist…
— University of Sheffield International College
I like the phrase: to be honest.
This article marks the beginning of my blog, which is also the beginning of my journey towards the University of Sheffield Department of Journalism (number one in UK). My tutor, who is teaching me one of the students in foundation year, had been working in BBC. This is amazing to me, though one of my classmates complained her “extra” lesson time.
Definitely I am facing a hard work, even if that means writing pleasurably simple stories rather than academic essays. I am going to make a double of sevens: 70% GPA of dependent modules, 70% of AES grade and an English level of IELTS 7.
So what is the exciting part? I would give two words, journalist and undergraduate. Imagine the future of a journalist undergraduate. You explore the world not as a traveler, but a recorder in the most dangerous regions as well as the most mysterious places. You write story, not as a novelist, but an adventurer who sells truths and facts.
But, in the very reality, how is a journalist? What job indeed will I do after graduating? Maybe a master and a Ph.D? (I consider myself a not-bad student.) Actually, there remains a why. I will say, I am a man of learning, I want to learn, especially in the University of Sheffield Department of Journalism. If I am good at learning, I will get a decent and honorable job as a journalist.
Is that right?
If journalism is something realistic, my imagination about idealism will find a way.
